Illini recruit Egwu to undergo surgery

Some tough news for Nnanna Egwu. The Illini recruit will undergo surgery on a herniated disc in his back, Illinois Wolves director Mike Mullins said today. The outpatient procedure is scheduled for Tuesday.

Egwu was able to play only limited minutes in July for the U17 Wolves, who still went 20-2 during the evaluation period. Egwu is expected to be sidelined for about 6 to 8 weeks and hopes to be back on the court in mid- to late-October, Mullins said. He said Egwu, a senior at St. Ignatius, is optimistic about a quick and full recovery.

Illinois currently has three commitments in its recruiting class of 2011 - Egwu, Tracy Abrams and Mycheal Henry. Seniors can sign national letters of intent from Nov. 10-17.
