Illini add walk-on guard

Kevin Berardini, a 6-foot sophomore point guard, will join the Illini basketball team as a preferred walk-on, he said today. Berardini participated in the first day of fall workouts at Ubben Basketball Complex.

Berardini graduated from Lake Forest High School, where he was teammates with Michigan sophomore Matt Vogrich. Berardini was on the basketball roster last season at Loyola Marymount, where he was a walk-on. He said he became ill with a blood disorder shortly before the season, however, redshirted and didn't play for the Lions. Berardini said he's eligible to play immediately at Illinois.

"Fortunately for me it worked out, so I'm really excited," Berardini said today.
