Weber on McCamey (maybe) exploring draft

Bruce Weber today was asked about the possibility of junior Demetri McCamey entering his name in the NBA draft. Underclassmen can throw their name in, not hire an agent and maintain their college eligibility.

"I'm sure it will come up if he has a great finish here," Weber said. "We've talked about it as a staff. If a kid wants that, I'll help them, but I want to make sure they do it in the right process and do it in the right channels and understand what the process is about."

For what it's worth, I fully expect McCamey will enter his name in the draft. That doesn't mean he's ready or will leave Illinois or is a highly regarded prospect, it's simply a reasonable step and it's something he's thought about. Weber just wants to be certain McCamey gets the correct advice - from current and former coaches and family, instead of "peripheral" influences. The Illinois coaches feel that some of McCamey's previous struggles, in past seasons, were affected by people back in the Chicago area that were in his ear.

"I think all coaches, the greatest fear, it's not always mom or dad. It's sometimes peripheral people that get (in) people's ears," Weber said. "They don't always give young men the right information."
